Activities
Without a doubt West Virginia is a haven for outdoor lovers, thus comes the name "Wild and Wonderful". Activities in West Virginia are virtually endless, with 80,000 acres of state parks, hunting, fishing and wildlife to explore and enjoy. If you prefer other outdoor activities there is boating, camping, caving and hiking, just to mention a few. Many of these activities have been blended into the River Ridge community like our rock climbing wall.
Golf
The first organized golf course in America is in West Virginia. Oakhurst Links (est. 1884) in White Sulphur Springs and is open for play daily. Located approximately 70 miles north west of River Ridge, Oakhurst Links is a beautiful and historic course to enjoy a round of golf.

Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife
West Virginia has 100,000 acres of forest. This expanse of acreage provides a great backdrop for any outdoor activity. With many miles of rivers, West Virginia offers the best fly-fishing on the east coast. If a float trip is more your style, one of the many boats in the area is ready to take you to fish for whatever kind of fresh water fish you'd like.
West Virginia is the home of thousands of species of birds. These birds find sanctuary in many of the mountains, valleys and forests in the state. The state parks offer many educational programs for any level of watcher.

Bicycling
West Virginia is considered a world class destination for its miles and miles of mountain trails. From the 76 miles of the Greenbrier River Trail to the local trails within River Ridge, you will always have new places to explore.
Hiking/Camping
With so many state parks in West Virginia finding the perfect location to camp will never be a problem. Whether you camp at one of the many campgrounds with modern conveniences, or ruff it out in the forest, you will not be disappointed wherever you decided to make home for the night or week.
Animal Trekking
Does exploring the trails with a Llama sound like fun? Llamas have been hiking with humans for over 5,000 years. These llamas are even willing to carry your bags for you. Check the Seneca Rocks visitors center for more information.
Horseback Riding
What better way to see miles of the West Virginia trails than on horseback. Many of the state parks have stables with a horse waiting for you. Take a group guided tour, or bring your own boarding is available.
Boating/Canoeing
The many rivers in West Virginia make it the perfect place to boat or canoe. There is a spot on the river for a relaxing paddle or for the adventurous, white water rafting. Many of the state parks offer rentals, but you are always welcome to bring your own.
Caving

Rock Climbing
"The Endless Wall" has the best view of the Potomac Highlands. It's a 1,000 foot sandstone face of Seneca Rocks. If you are new to rock climbing, lessons are available at many locations all around WV.
